Activate every local quest, complete the requested collection or boss encounter, then return the distinctive trophy item instead of ordinary meat. If progress does not move, check which player holds the item and try every unusual boss part at the quest giver before repeating the fight.
How island progression works
The game advances through local objectives rather than a simple fish-count requirement. On each island:
- Talk to every available NPC.
- Read the new objective before collecting or summoning anything.
- Complete the collection or boss requirement.
- Pick up every unusual result from the encounter.
- Return to the quest giver before selling or cooking the catch.
- Confirm that the objective text changed before leaving.
Second-island route
- Find the farmer-type quest giver and finish the dialogue.
- Collect five leeches from the island floor. They are small ground pickups, not fish in the water.
- Return all five directly to the quest giver.
- For the piranha-related step, prepare before using the boss lure.
- After the fight, keep the distinctive piranha trophy. Players describe it as a skull or tail; generic meat chunks do not complete the reported hand-in.
- Return the unusual part and check that the next objective appears.
If the leech counter stops below five, follow the Leeches troubleshooting route instead of circling the island indefinitely.
Third-island route
Current player reports point to three common blockers:
- An endangered-fish objective appears to involve a long horse- or needle-shaped fish. Use the current objective and visible creature shape rather than relying on an unofficial inventory nickname.
- The pufferfish is a major combat jump. Prepare the arena, healing and loadout before placing the lure.
- After the pufferfish fight, return the distinct fin or bone-shaped trophy; do not assume the meat is the quest item.
The tablet and radar available around this stage reduce search and navigation time. They do not replace quest completion, so buy them when travel or locating targets is the real bottleneck.

If the objective will not advance
Work through this order:
- Open the objective and read the requested noun again.
- Compare it with every unusual item in the inventory.
- Return to each active NPC on the current island.
- In co-op, check which player collected the trophy and bring that player to the hand-in.
- Reload only after protecting progress and confirming the item or world pickup is genuinely missing.
- Check current patch notes or discussions before repeating an expensive boss.
